After completing the public school courses in Adams Co., he attended several private schools, and in 1904 he graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. After receiving practical training in Littlestown, Gettysburg, Chester, and Philadelphia drug stores, he purchased the Dr. R. S. Seiss Drug Store in Littlestown and operated it for the rest of his life.
He was an active member of numerous civic and fraternal organizations in the area, being a charter member of the Littlestown Rotary Club, and affiliated with the Ancient Order of Knights of the Mystic Chain, the Patriotic Order Sons of America, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and Masonic organizations in addition to Patmos Lodge 348.
He had been president of the Tri-county Druggests association of Adams, York, and Franklin counties; was closely associated with the Littlestown National Bank for many years, having become a director in 1933, president in1942, and chairman of the board in 1952; had been president of the Keystone Cabinet Co. of Littlestown; and had served as a school director and borough councilman.
