Abraham's wife was a direct descentant of Balser Hesson, one of the earliest settlers in the Silver Run area. He came to America from the German Palatinate at the age of 26 on "Ship Friendship", landing in Philadelphia on Sept 3, 1739.
Apparently he had settled in the area in the early 1740's as his oldest child, Balser, Jr., was born @ 1744, and he had a daughter, Magdalena, baptized at Christ Church on Nov. 10, 1750. He must have become a person of some regard in the community because when the "Articles of Union" establishing St. Mary's Lutheran and Reformed Church at Silver Run were signed on Sunday, May 31, 1762 by 22 persons, his name was second on this list which was composed of the leaders of both congregations. He signed his name "Balthasar Hiessung."
Balser, as he was generally referred to, made his will on April 5, 1773, and it was probated in Frederick on July 24, 1774. This would indicate he died earlier in 1774 aged 61 years. The will of "Balser Heson" informs us that his wife's name was Margaret, that he had 9 children (they were named), and that he left his "dwelling plantation" of 132.5 acres called "Turkey Hill" to his son, Balser. As he was not able to sign his name when the will was made, he made his mark - the letters BH. He and his wife would have been buried at Silver Run, but no markers from that time exist any longer.
Not only are all persons of the Hesson name in this area descended from him (reguardless of how they spell the name), but also many persons of our relationship, particularily those having the name Sell, Unger, and Bair, can trace directly descent back to Balser Hesson- Doyle F. Wildasin included.
