He was the 14th of 15 children. He worked at first as a miller, then as a clerk at Union Mills. He married a distant cousin, and they lived in Union Mills for some years, and there all their 11 children were born. About 1894 they moved to Littlestown, PA where he became the superintendent of the B. F. Shriver Canning Works. He died at an early age of 59 years.
An interesting news item was found in the local Littlestown newspaper, the Adams Co Independent for Dec 19 1903 which was as follows:
"Recently a very large barrel pumpkin was presented to the Hon. Samuel Harrison Rebert by Mr. Austin E Stonesifer. It was a republican pumpkin of the present prosperity size. Samuel Harrison has been having pumpkin pies all winter, and now uses the shell as a sort of Jack O Lantern at nights. Mr John Bish furnished the team to haul the pumpkin and the Hon. Josephus "Hurry-up" Forney acted as driver - and neither team or driver have yet been paid for the delivery. Both have declared a strike, and no more prosperity pumpkins will be hauled by these gentlemen until arrearages have been settled."
