1907/March 30. "John Drummond. Death has once more entered our midst-this time removing from us Mr. John Drummond, who for several years had been Middletown's oldest citizen. For a long time he had been failing, and on Friday last he was taken seriously ill, and remained unconscious until his death occurred at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday morning.
Mr. Drummond was born on a farm near Stanton, October 28th, 1819, and was married to Miss Rachel Nebeker of Stanton, on January 19th 1847. Immediately after the wedding Mr. Drummond purchased "Willow Grove Mills," near town, where he resided until coming to Middletown in 1877. The death of Mrs. Drummond occurred about 12 years ago, and his two daughters, Mrs. George Gill and Mrs. James Ellison are both deceased. Mr. Drummond leaves five grand children: Misses Florence, Ethel and Mary, and Messrs. John D. and Norman Gill to mourn his death.
In all his business, relations Mr. Drummond was known to be honorable his word being relied upon as a sacred bond, and his friends were numerous. For many years he had been a member of Bethesda Methodist Episcopal Church, at one time being a member of the Official Board, and while his health permitted was regular in attendance. In politics, Mr. Drummond was a Democrat.
His funeral took place Friday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock, services being held at his late residence on Green street; interment being made in Bethesda ME Cemetery. Dr. C T Wyatt of Harrison street M E Church Wilmington officiated. The pall bearers were; Thomas E Hurn, G E Hukill, Enoch G Allee, Joseph C Parker, Merritt N Willits and J F McWhorter." MT T
