[320] He almost never used his first name, but was always known as Daniel- as was his father before him. His wife Elizabeth, who was about eight years his senior, was a descendant of Christian Bauer, the surveyor who laid off the tracts of land that Jacob Bankert had bequeathed to his children in 1789.

They lived near the old Stonesifer homestead in the general area of Mayberry and Uniontown in Carroll Co. MD. He apparently rented the land he lived on, farmed on a small scale, but was a shoemaker by trade.
He was a life long member of the St. Mary's Reform congregation at Silver Run and according to tradition, he is said to have enjoyed his daily portion of "schnapps." He apparently lived not too far from his brother Peter

The couple raised a family of 8 children. Their descendants are the most numerous family group of all the children of our immigrant ancestor John Daniel Stonesifer.

When the 10 year legal battle over their father's estate erupted in the 1840's two suits were filed regarding grievance by the Stonesifers, one being known as Case in Equity No 61 by Daniel on Aug 3, 1843. At one time in the testimony it was said that it was believed that Daniel always signed his name in the old German way. However, a copy of his signature on a legal paper dated 1847 in this writer's possession does not seem to bear this out.

He died Mar 8 1849 and the newspaper notice of this death "Hanover Spectator" of March 16, 1849 gave is first name as David - a mistake having been made in taking the "ni" in Daniel for the letters "vi".

His estate could not be settled by his son Joseph till Feb 14, 1854 because of family lawsuits. In looking over the old papers (which are on file in the Westminster Court House) it appears that he disposed of much of his personal property prior to his death. However, several items of some interest to us today can be mentioned; that the estate received a total of $158.70 as a result of the Cases in Equity No 59 and 61; that a cousin - George Lewis Little- had been paid $7.00 for making the coffin for Daniel's wife and $6.00 for making one for Daniel himself; and that after Daniel's funeral the mourners were served the traditional meal at which (in this case) weal was the main course.

The same year that Daniel died a first cousin of his died also. This was John Jacob Wildasin who died Nov 12 1849 near Hanover. Daniel Stonesifer's mother was Maria Elizabeth Yingling who married Samuel Wildasin. Susanna was the older sister of Maria Elizabeth. The writer of this family history is a direct descendant of John Daniel Stonesifer, JR and John Jacob Wildasin.- both of them being great, great, great, grandfathers to him. The writer is also a direct descendant of John Daniel Stonesifer, JR's sister Barbara as her granddaughter became the wife of Joseph, one of four sons of John Daniel Stonesifer. This information not only shows us the complexity of our family relationships and genealogy, but it is also important in detailing family history.

Henry Z Jones, Jr. in his book The Palatine Families of New York publishes 1985 writes on page 1117:
"James. who made a request for a Delaware land survey in" ( book continues on next page but no date)

James Voshell will was signed 2/11/1789 probate entered Dec 19 1790 naming a daughter Mary Rash, son Obediah, granddaughter Sarah Bennett, granddaughter Lutley Rash, dau of Mary.

If Peter and Obediah inherited Francis land as brothers, why did not Levi and James receive inheritance if they are brothers?

Could this James be the James of the "Three Brothers" and not related directly to Augustine as a son?

This James is likely to be the last of the eight children of Obediah Sr. His connection to the Rash family is a clue in the sale of land to Joseph Rash in 1821 of the inherited lands--1821 T2 p 181 Kent Co Deeds
