MT T 4/3/1894 he was given an 80th birthday party by his son.
His tombstone engraving says 1875. The age of the tombstone style looks like it was carved in the 1950's since it is in a list of many family members. It looks like they updated the family markers. It could be that the carver mistook someone's nine for a seven. The article seems to be more accurate with the dates if published in 1894 subtract 80 gives you a birth date of 1814 and that is what is confirmed by the tombstone.
