Obit clipping pasted in the back of Voshell Family Bible owned by Joseph R Voshell:
"John W. Carrow, one of the best known men in lower New Castle county died on Thursday, at the home of his son-in-law D. R. Rees at Willow Grove Mills, near Middletown, in the 72nd year of his age. He had been ill for the past five years. Mr. Carrow was born and raised near Smyrna, but for the past thirty years he had lived on a farm near St Georges. He leaves three sons and four daughters, J.W. Carrow, Jr., and Edgar Carrow, of St Georges; Dr Joseph Carrow, of Odessa; Mrs. O. J. Shahan, of near Mt Pleasant and Mrs. D. R. Rees, Misses Ida and Florence Carrow, of Middletown.
Mr. Carrow was one of the best farmers in this neighborhood, his pains taking, good judgment and knowledge of the business making his advice a source sought after and followed by many of his friends and acquaintances. He was noted for his care of his raising of fine stock-particularly horses, and recently sold under the hammer a pair of fine bays for $500. He was a conscientious man, dealing with his fellow man in a straightforward honest manner on all occasions. He was a member of Bethesda M. E. Church, but his affliction for the past four or five years necessitated his keeping at home, near Mt. Pleasant. The funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. R. Rees on Monday, and were in charge of Rev. V. S. Collins and Rev. G. P. Jones. Interment was made in Odd Fellows' Cemetery Smyrna, and was largely attended. The pall bearers were his grandsons, John W Voshell, Harvey L Voshell, John W. Carrow, Raymond G. Carrow, Gilbert Carrow, and Harvey G. Reynolds"
1909/May 1 "After an illness of more than five years, John W. Carrow one of the best known men in lower New Castle County, died at six o'clock Thursday morning, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. D. R Rees, "Willow Grove Mills," near town, in the 72d year of his age. Brights disesae with other complications were the cause of his death.
Deceased was the son of John and Harriett Carrow, and was born near Smyrna, where he spent his early life, but for the past 30 years Mr. Carrow resided near St Georges, where he was engaged in farming.
In politics Mr. Carrow was a Democrat and had served his party as Road Commissioner, and in 1904 was a candidate for the legislature." MT T
