[9266] At first Daniel was a farmer, having purchased some 57 acres of land on April 26 1828 from Jacob Yingling for $370.50. Jacob Yingling was a brother of his grandmother. The land that he had purchased lay near Silver Run, and was part of a tract called "Dyer's Mill Forest." It was also on part of this tract that St Mary's Lutheran and Reformed church had been erected. After farming for some time, he then came to own and operate a general store in Silver Run for a number of years. During his years at Silver Run he served several times as a trustee of St. Mary's Church, representing the German Reformed side of the congregation. Later he was a butcher in Hagerstown, MD , Littlestown, PA, and lastly at Mechanicsburg, PA. All his life he was a staunch member of the German Reformed Church, and was a strong Republican in politics. His last years were apparently spent with his son, Jacob H and his gfamily who was living in Lewisberry at that time. He is said to have died near Harrisburg about 1876, and is probably buried in and unmarked grave at St. John's cemetery near Lewisberry. His first wife is buried in the old cemetery of St Mary's Church at Silver Run; his second wife is likely buried at Charles Town, West Virginia where she was still living in 1901. Daniel had a family of 13--6 by his first wife and 7 by his second wife. In the years following the Civil War, the family became widely scattered, and almost none of them remained in the homeland area of their forefathers.
