[9193] Around 1770 Frederick went to the new lands opening up in PA in what was then Bedford Co but is now Blair Co. He settled in a place variously called Morrison's Cove or Great Cove nert Roaring Springs and became a miller. In that day Hagerstown was the nearest place for the settlers to go and buy or sell things. When the American Revolution came the Indians began to make attacks on the region. These attacks reached a height of ferocity in 1777- one attack resulting in the mill that Frederich Yingling operated being burned down. These conditions forced him and nearly all other settlers there to flee with their families back east. Frederick returned to the Silver Run area where he became an active member of the militia and also apparently bought a 150 acre plantation in Piney Creek Hundred called Frankfort on which he was paying taxes in 1782. Around 1794 he and his family returned to Morrison's Cove and took up the life they had left in 1777.
