[6014] Scharf's p980 Hotels in Delaware City: The first hotel in this city was opened in 1826 by ______Scattergood, on the corner of Washinton and Second Streets. This was the first house erected within the present linits of Delaware City, and was known as the "farm-house." In 1827 Thomas Craven was the proprietor." "In 1823 the Delaware City Hotel was built by Manuel Eyre, and Elihu Jefferson moved into this building as tenant. It is situated on the corner of Clinton Street and Delaware Avenue." One of the managers of this hotel is listed Martin D Ball.
