[10384] He worked at first near Littlestown as a farm hand, clerk, and teacher. Perferring the city life, he went to Baltimore on April 16, 1857 and became a clerk in a dry goods store. Amos and Fannie, who was originally from Ellicott Mills near Baltimore were married in an Episcopal Ch. At first they stayed at Amos' boarding house at 52 Liberty St. On Sept 6, 1858 they moved to their oun home at 64 George Street - for which Amos paid $30 a month rent. On the day of his death, Amos and his brother Janes H were fishing near Baltimore. While eating lunch his rod was swepted away. After retrieving it, Amos was returning to shore when he got cramps and in spite of being an excellent swimmer- drowned. James tried desperately to rescue him but was unable to do so- nearly drowning also.
