[8854] Went to California with the gold rush of 1849 traveling by way of the Isthmus of Panama. He mined for gold around Placerville, CA, never married, suffered greatly from rheumatism, and died in CA

He was a farmer near Silver Run, his property consisting of 102 1/4 acres that he had purchased from his parents on Apr 20 1805. The land was said to have been located near the MD PA line about three miles or so south of Littlestown. Twice married, he had 12 children- eight from his first wife and four from his second wife.
An interesting footnote can be added concerning one of his grandchildren. Abraham's will was probated Feb 11, 1861 at the Court House in Westminster. Towards the end of the document he states that his grandson Augustus owed him $20 and that the debt was discharged. However, the $20 was to be considered the inheritance of the grandson and he forfeited any and all claims- as Augustus had disobeyed his wishes. It would be interesting to know what Augustus had done that caused his grandfather to be so angry with him
