Residence 50 acres at the Mtn next to Azariah Crane & Beef Point. Religion Presbyterian Joseph L. Druse identified children of Caleb Ball I as Caleb, John, Abigail, Joshua, Jane.
From John R. Burnet's Journal (1850s):
Section I See P 115 top and P 114 bottom for order of birth. Descendants of CalebBall Snr. Neither head stone, will, nor letters of administration of the first Caleb Ball have been found. We are therefore, unable to say when he died, or how long he lived. And the names of his children we can only guess from Moses Ball's will, in which legacies are left to his "cousins" (nephews) Caleb Ball and John Ball. The house of Caleb Ball Junr. is mentioned in the County Road Book, as being near "White Brook" (north of Newark) in 1716, and that appears from the Long Bill in Chancery, that land, were surveyed for John Ball in 1724. Since we know that Caleb and John were not sons of Joseph or of Thomas, they must have been sons of Caleb Snr. Whether there were any other children the records do not show. The last trace of Caleb Ball Snr which has been discovered is his subscription as witness to a deed in 1717/18. In 1704, May 1, his father Edward Ball "planter" conveyed to him 50 acres at the mountain, next north of deacon Azariah Crane's, and half the meadows at Beef Point, in consideration of which, Caleb was to give up the homestead which he had in possession. This tract he conveyed 19 Feb 1705/6 to John
Canfield in exchange for 60 acres on both sides of Third River. His wife Sara joined with him in the conveyance being the only place in which her name appears.-(footnote inserted at bottom of page--"These deeds are recorded in the old Town book of Newark").

Idella lived with her parents in Smyrna, DE until she was 30 when she married her husband. They moved into the large white house (Thomas English home) next to the Odd Fellow's Cemetery on the Dupont Highway south of Smyrna. They were probably tenant farmers until the property was sold to a Frank and Mary L. Slaughter brother and sister in 1918. George Cummins a business partner of Idella's grandfather Matthew Ford owned Woodlawn.
The next residence was a farm near the St. Anne's Church and cemetery in Middletown DE. The house is gone but the barns are still being used for the DOT. The farm was near the Silver Lake. Ruth M Voshell remembered her mother during the depression as never turning away a hungry traveler on the railroad line that came into the town. Although they very not very well off, Idella shared what the farm produced. The farm also had one of the richest gravel pits in the State, and Ruth M remembers that they were paid 23 cents for every truckload of gravel. Most of the gravel is gone however you can see the remaining edges at the sight where the town has built a Justice court.
After Idella's daughter married and moved to Florida, Eugene and Idella joined the family there then they all moved to Florham Park, NJ.
Ruth V memories of Idella start at 205 N Cass Street in the early 1950's. Idella was a great cook and the grandchildren looked forward to pancakes on Saturday night. She braided rugs and took care of her husband. Idella was a devoted Christian.
After Eugene died, Idella continued to live in Middletown. Then when her daughter moved to Wilmington, Idella kept house for a man named "Boyd" in Wilmington. Granddaughter Ruth V and Idella use to take the bus and go downtown Wilmington to shop and have lunch at the "5 &10" store on Market Street. She moved into the American Ave Dover, DE retirement home in the early 1960's. She lived to be 92yrs and 6 days.
After her death, some money was discovered in a savings account for Idella. By agreement, all assets were to be turned over to the State when you entered the State retirement home. Her daughter left a clipping from the local paper that the money had been returned to the State by an anonymous source. Just Ruth Ann Minner Voshell's way of communicating with her family after she had died.
