he later moved to Williamsport PA where he was a carpenter y trade. Rueben was a Civil War veteran and had served for three months as a private in Co F 16th Regt PA Vol. being mustered in at York PA on April 25 1861. The followin item appeared in his local newspater at the time of his death.
Dec 30 1897 Special to the "Public Ledger" Williamsport Pa: " Reuben Stonesifer died last night at his home on Park Ave. He was 60 years old. For years he was engaged in the lumber business in this city. An interesting incident is related of Mr. Stonesifer. He was a young man, employed in the Government service at Washington, when Abraham Lincoln was shot. Shortly afterward Stonesifer was arrested. He was shown the picture of John Wilkes Booth, who he was taken to be, and the resemblance was so close that he was not discharged until identified by relatives from Hanover."
