[12644] He is supposedly the only one of four brothers born in Eiserfeld who came to America. He is probably the same Johannes Steinseifer mentioned in the Hoffman diary as also living in Eysern, and thus would have left from there to come to America. He is also thought to be a brother of John Daniel Stonesifer's father. Johannes and his second wife, Elizabeth and 7 of his 8 children were passengers on the Ship Patience which docked in Philadelphia on Sept 19,1749. After landing he and all males aged 16 and older were taken to the State House (later Independence Hall) where they signed required oaths of allegiance to Britain. Johannes signed his name as "Johannes Steinsiefer" - getting the ei and ie of his last name twisted, in the seifer part. The family then came westward, apparently stopped briefly at the Hoffmans, and then went on. They would have traveled the road from York to Frederick, MD called the Monocacy Trail. Turning southward they eventually settled in Brumfield Parish located in Culpepper Co VA. In 1753 the oldest son, John Henry, came to America and joined the family, having completed his required tour of duty in the German army. Johannes died there in 1754 and he was buried in the German Reformed Church Cemetery in Culpepper. His will, entered for probate about April 2, 1754 was settled in 1757. In it was indicated that he still owned a home plantation in addition to bequeathing 50 acres of land to each of his sons.
