Notes of Walter Ryland:
Of course I would like very much to connect up both John Ryland + Mary Pennington. I wonder if this might not be Mary Penington b 16 Apr 1754. This Mary was the daughter of John Penington 1721 and Rachel Biddle. I have this entry from Clark, A. Howard, National Register of the Society Sons of the American Revolution, New York, NY: Louis H. Cornish, 1902.>*CHARLES ALFRED ELY KING, deceased (9656). Son of James Hammer and Charlotte Rose (Ely) King; grandson of George Wilson and Mary Ann (Gormley) King; great-grandson of William and Charlotte (Ryland) King; great2-grandson of John and Mary (Pennington) Ryland; great3-grandson of John Pennington, private, Colonel Price's Second Maryland Continental Foot, died in service.<
Mrs. Dening's entry in the DAR Lineage Book gives us John Ryland who married Mary Pennington . . . the daughter of John Pennington and Mary Ryland. No wonder I get confused. It is her entry that gives us 1735-1778 for John Pennington the Revolutionary soldier. I haven't been able to verify that anywhere else. She lists John Penington in what appears to be the same unit, so at least these are consistent.
You've seen her listing, but here it is again.>The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Volume 52 page 118
