[12851] Fouch is one surname in the notes of Carolyn MC Daniels

Finally, John Ryland’s first wife Alice is ascribed as “Alice Bavington, sister of John Bavington” due to her mention in the will of John Bavington
Let us begin with the last identity. The Ryland Family, which is outlined in Volume Six was heavily connected with a portion of the Pennington Family, antecedents have never been established. Through a recorded deed we know that in 1718 John and Alice Ryland lovingly gave a property along the Bohemia River and Scotchman's Creek (or Omalia's Creek) to their daughter Mary who had married Robert Pennington. There is no marriage record for John and Alice Ryland. However, if we examine the Cecil county Land Records, we find a deed recorded in 1723, which shows us that Alice Ryland was NOT Alice BAVINGTON, but Alice FOUCH. “William Davis and Angel, his wife” granted 50 acres lying along Bryant’s Creek or Omalia’s Creek, south of the Bohemia River. This property, a one fifth interest was devised to Angel by the last will and testament of her father Hugh Fouch, while his step-son JOHN BAVINGTON was bequeathed two-fifths, and his three daughters Alice, Rosamund and Angel recei!
ved three fifths. John Bavington’s “sister” is therefore identified as ALICE FOUCH, not ALICE BAVINGTON.

[7615] Hi Lee,
This is not proven and will probably not ever be able to be proven. I was following out a lead of a Henry that was b. Sept 6, 1629 in Colton, Lancashire, England. I have ordered every film I could get on him from IGI
that included Endowments, birth records, etc. It seems that, a lady by the name of Elizabeth Scholes (related to the family in some way) has restricted the films. I live near Mesa, AZ where LDS has the 3rd largest library in
the world. It is a wonderful place. I have been talking to Sister Mary, who was born and raised in Yorkshire and she has been helping with quite a dilemma. It seems that this Mrs. Scholes has for reasons unknown sealed approx. 17 films that dealt with this Henry Pennington. Sister Mary says that - It could have been that the father of this Henry, which shows to be Allen married outside the family circle and this Scholes lady wants the fact to
remain secret. Looking into the marriage of Henry's parents, the films are also restricted by Elizabeth Scholes and just show Allen married Mrs. Allen Pennington. It could also mean that this Scholes lady raised Henry and he
would not have known his father's name, consequently, his first born did not follow the tradition of names as we know they did. I have not been able to follow the connection between and Penington's and the Scholes but I am
guessing that this Mrs. Scholes could have been a grandmother or aunt to Henry. Furthermore, Sister Mary said that in order to see those films that are restricted, I would have to have my full family genealogy (with primary sources and you know how difficult that is) showing the linage to myself and submit it to the Archbishop of the Church of England in order for him to allow me to view those films. Sister Mary, did tell me that there are a number of scholers /publishers in England that are getting into the Church of England archives and they
have began to publish some of the records from the original source. One lady from England did send me a copy of the pages that sates that Henry was the son of Allen of Sayles, which lies in the same area of Colton Parish. But that is as far as I have gotten. So, that is the story to date. I guess this is going to be a "fill in the blank with your imagination for awhile". I apologize for taking soooo long getting back to you.
Renee

I'm just getting around to your e mail that states Henry Pennington
was> b. Colton Parish, Lancashire, England. How did you prove this? Lee

PRA information:[This will is out of place, it belongs to Henry who marries Elizabeth Drake]

Happy Harbor, Partners Addition,
1662 St Mary's Co MD
1667 Planter St Jerome's Creek St Michael's HD St Mary Co MD
1671 Henry bought land from Richard Leake on the Sassafrass in CC MD called "the Happy Harbor"
1679 St Mary's Co lists him "late of Cecil Co."

This note appears to be the son of the first Henry--Henry's wife in 1671 is Eliza; she is probably a second wife and mother of Abraham and William and possibly a daughter Rebecka.
Henry is presumably dead by 1678, as he does not appear in the MD tobacco assessments that year MD Archives Vol. 8 pp. 87-104

Carolyn McDaniels writes on 11/3/1997 in Rootsweb message board: "Frederickstown was first called "Happy Harbour," after the land grant that the first Henry took up from Richard Leake in 1671. Later it became known as Pennington Point and still later, Frederickstown. Another Henry (3) and his brother Robert (3), sons of Robert (2) (Henry 1) laid out the town--they briefly called it "Amelia Anns Town"--and sold lots there. Robert and Henry quarreled over the property and only resolved their differences shortly before Robert died."

Victor P Pennington notes at MD Historical Lib Baltimore Filing case A:
Happie Harbour 8-5-1671. Cecil Co 10-1-1880 a patent for 100 acres "Silvanes Folly" at the head of Gaeke Creek on the Sassfrass River granted to John Browning of CC which was assigned to Henry Pennington

In all the records I could locate, there were no Pennington's who gave their Oaths to the Queen for their dedication to the Church of England. For this reason, I believe that this was probably the reason for the emigration of Henry to America.

Carolyn M McDaniel write in Rootsweb archives 1998:
"There were four Henrys who were immigrants to MD, as reflected in "The Early Settlers of Maryland," by Gus Skordas, and the one who lived with Henry Coles is not reflected there if he either immigrated to Virginia or was born there.
