Petition of Joseph Voshall a minor Oct 7, 1769.
That whereas Moses Goodwin, Uncle to your petitioner and late of Baltimore County in the providence of Maryland now decd. was in his life time possessed of personal Estate and died interstate without issue; and whereas it appears that by a distribution of one half of said Estate among the brothers and sisters of the said decd. that the quota of each amount to the sum of fifty nine pounds; and Sarah, one of the Sisters who was a former Wife to Obediah Voshall, and mother to your petitioner, having left issue eight children and £59 equally divided among her issue of quota of each amount £7:7:6 and your petitioner being desirous to call his quota out of the hands of the Widow and Adm. of the said Moses Goodwin decd. which he is not able to do yet because of his Minority, he therefore prays that your worship would be pleased to appoint his Brother John Voshall to be guardian for him for the purpose of afor said and your petitioner as in duty beseech pray."
[this is a lead on the proof that Obediah Sr had been married before his marriage to the Widow Elizabeth Brown. Obediah JR would not have been able to marry a half sister.]
Biggest question--if this is the right Joseph seeking his brother as guardian in 1769, and his father died in 1778--Why did he need a guardian? the will may have not be taken in for probate until later

Questions remain on the birthdate and the parents marriage date as being correct???????
1850 census has a Martha Caldwell 10 living with Samuel 50 and Mary 37
1860 census has a Martha Cardwell 19 and Ruth A Hobbs 13 living with this family
1860 census has a Martha Colwell 20 F Seamstress living with Samuel Voshell age 61 [same person?????]
1870 census has a Martha Colwell 29 living with Daniel Voshell 69 and Mary A 56
1850 Census Farmer 22 DE living in MK HD Lavinia 20 and Edward Clark 14
1860 Cencus Farmer 30 DE living in DK HD Lavina 25 Patience L ,Samuel, Mary C
1870 list him as a laborer
1900 Census born 1828 72 lives with son in law James Robinson
Turner file Saml Voshell bought tract 1863 deed 10a gave to son Joseph, Joseph had 2 sons Sam and Joe. A letter poorly writen by a neighbor of distant relative? said the two sons did not do any thing much whit the land. Sam tombstone in Odd Fellow Camden DE. (signed John Cooper Gooden 7/25/1913)
