[2199] Obadiah would have to be one of Augustine's children, ages ranging from 25, 22, 20, 16, 12, 8, and 1. These are recorded in the records of the early Huguenot immigration from France in 1710. If Peter was the oldest, then Francis, then next youngest Obadiah, this Obadiah's age in 1719 was 20 or younger. Birth year could be 1690 then he would have aged to 88 in 1778.

The earliest date recorded that maybe Obediah's birth in DE is an entry in Caesar Rodney's diary [This is the father of Caesar Rodney the famous patriot, since he writes in his diary about the birth of his own son on Oct 7, 1728.] about a child born to Obadiah and his wife on Sept 1, 1727.

"'Fare Weather and Good Helth' the Journal of Caesar Rodenay 1717-1729 edited by Harold B Hancock in the section 'Extracts of Social and Economic Significance' It was published in Delaware History, Vol. 10 Wilm. DE the Historical Society of DE 1962-1963: " September 1 (1727) -- Nothing remarkable this I Eat Brakfast Diner and Super as Usual -- There wass tow Children born in Dover hundred (viz.) Robert French Son of Thomas and Susanah and [blank] Vashall of Obadiah and [blank] his wife." [Obadiah Voshall owned land in Murderkill Hundred]

1728/Sept 4 Obadiah witnesses a deed of Levi > Blackshore I 151

1729-1730 Peter the eldest and Obadiah the next youngest inherit their brother Francis land and sell it to Durburow. The land is called "Freelands Fancy" K 21.

1737/May 39 Obediah requests a new survey for "Voshell Purchase. V1 #7. The Palatine Families of New York by Henry Z Jones, Jr. page 1117 states that a Obadiah who made a request for a land survey in 1737

1739/Sept 16 Obediah gets a warrant for 200a SW of his existing land.

1742/Feb 27 W 1 195. A William Goodwin of Murderkill HD to Obadiah Voshell track known as "Williamsburg" 100a. next to SD Voshell's lands. [This last name clue leads to the Joseph Voshell orphan court record 1769 that his mother's name was Sarah Goodwin mother of eight and former wife of Obadiah. The theory that Sarah is the mother of the five children listed in Obediah's will is possible because even the two daughters were married at the time of Obadiah's will. The first born may have traditional been named for the father's namesake.]

1728-1748 is twenty years to father Eight children.

1748 John Brown's Will received into Probate. Widow Elizabeth shows up 13 years later as Obediah SR's wife in deed transfers

1748/Sept 14 Obadiah receives warrant Dunburow 50 a p4 58

1748/Nov 15 James Correll Kent to Obadiah Voshell "Northampton" 200a. M 243

1758/Mar 3 Survey for Obadiah Voshell original land 116 acres "Voshels Purchase" near "Williamsburg and Daniel Voshels land near a Swamp and near Obadiah Voshells land and improvements. 6 cents for road and highways dated 9/24/1761 [on the bottom] "Note this land was first surveyed for Obadiah Voshel by John Wilson late Dept Surv of Kent Co on the 14th of June 1734 by Virtue of a Warrant bearing Date the 30th of May proceeding but that survey being a blunder almost throughout it the whole, this order issued at the instance of Ob Voshel to correct it Vide Wilson return in the Surv Generals Office"

1760/May 14 Obediah Jr. sell land his wife Elizabeth inherited from her father John Brown Q 58

1761/May 14 Obediah SR is listed with his second wife Elizabeth for the first time in the deeds

Deed 11/1/1773 V 1 150 Lists Obediah SR- wife Elizabeth, Obadiah JR- wife Elizabeth, Govey Trippet -wife Rachel, Richard Lewis - wife Mary and John Brown all heirs of John Brown "ye Downs" warrant 12/22/1681 last will 1/5/1748-9. Lists wife Elizabeth -widow married Obadiah SR, Rachel -wife of Govey Trippet, dau Elizabeth- wife Obadiah Jr., dau Mary -single now wife of Richard Lewis.

Obadiah's probate names a wife Elizabeth and sons John, Joseph, Obadiah, and daughters Elizabeth m Jackson, and Mary m Thompson. Signed Will June 25, 1778, filed in probate Sept 16 1778 [Interesting note on this will is that it signed by the Register for the Probate of Wills by Caesar Rodney Esq.]

Turner files have this Obadiah, son of Peter and Susanna (Goforth) Voshell. Turner file also has Levi and Elizabeth listed as children for Peter. There are many entries in the Voshell file from Turner that seem to be penciled guesses or theories he was working on to help sort out all the Obadiah's in the DE records.

Best guess for Obadiah SR's father is Augustine.
