1900 Census lives in Kenton Hd with step father David R Rees
His father died when he was 8. His son Joe recalls that his father worked in the mill at Silver lake where the family lived. Virginia Rees bought the mill in 1904 so she had remarried by that year. He grew up with David Rees and Virginia Carrow his mother and stepfather where they operated the Willow Grove Mills, which ground flour and feed grains. His marriage license describes his occupation as "miller" and that his birthplace was New Castle, DE.
Granddaughter Ruth V remembers hearing from her father, John W JR, that his dad worked at the feed grain store near the railroad station in Middletown DE. There is an ad in the Middletown Transcripts 3/24/1927 for a business "J W Voshell" selling chicken feeds. Uncle Joe recalls that the store was on the side of Middletown heading toward Odessa. Fay Voshell Bird remembers going to the store in Middletown as a child.
Ruth V also remembers him as the town clerk in the 1950's, stopping by to visit him on her way home from school or to visit with Grandmom Addie Voshell. He walked home for lunch everyday and they use to vacation in Rehoboth, DE sitting in the large white rockers on the porch of the hotel.
Sundays were spent visiting the grandparents and sitting on a "prickly" horsehair stuffed dark red sofa. He died in his home at 7 West Hoffecker Street.
