Grew up in Middletown DE. Lived at Willow Grove Mill home near Silver Lake. Note on photo says about 15 years at this residence. Worked as a radio operator in the merchant marines before WWII. Family pictures of him on the S/S Examiner (NY to Mediterranean Sea), S/S Exchange, S/S Hamilton (NY to Norfolk, VA).
Spent some time in Africa at a radio outpost. ( Picture of Dad in Africa says "Maiduguri, Nigeria Nov 24, 1941 - Oct 24, 1942 Radio Shack (ZDW2)) Work as a radio operator for Pan American Airways out of Miami FL.
Then worked for TWA in the 50's flying the Middle East runs. Picture of Dad in London "1956 TWA Airways"
Then he was on to All-American Engineers and finally to the DuPont company.
He retired to New Port Richey, FL He loved peach ice cream and old short wave radios. He kept up his ham operator license into the 1980's. He lived 79yrs.
Interesting note on his birth certificate is that the Doctor was J. Carrow Odessa DE. This is probably his grandmother Virginia's brother Dr.Joseph Carrow who would have been 43. Addie was 19 and J. W. Voshell Sr. was 21 -- Miller is listed as his occupation.
1934/April 12 MT T " Mr. John W Voshell JR who had been on a Mediterranean cruise for several months was the guest of his parents, Mr and Mrs. John W Voshell for a few days and on Tuesday sailed from New York on another Mediterranean trip to be gone about three months."
1934/ Sept 20 MT T " Mr John W Voshell JR is visiting his parents Mr and Mrs John W Voshell. Mr Voshell has just returned from a Mediterranean cruise and will sail on September 30 for Italy."
