[2364] Tombstone date is 12/3/1916 husband of Mary E. Rees

Voshell Family Bible clipping. "David Rees, a highly respected and esteemed citizen, who since the death of his wife nearly ten years ago moved from his farm in Kenton Hundred, near Clayton, to Smyrna and has been living a retired life, died early Sunday morning at two o'clock at his residence on west Commerce street after a lingering illness, aged 76 years and three months. Deceased has been in failing health for some years and for the past years has hardly been able to leave his home. The death of Mr. Rees removes one of the oldest and best-known citizens of this community. Deceased was the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Harris) Resse and was born, raised and spent his whole life in this vicinity. In early life he married Miss Mary E. Thompson, a sister of the late William R. Thompson, of Smyrna, who died January 12, 1907. While a progressive farmer, he found time to devote to politics and served his party, the Democratic Party, in not only important committee work by represented Kenton Hundred in the Levy Court for one or two terms as County Treasurer. He was a Member of the Presbyterian Church of Smyrna, and lived a life of usefulness and devoted to his family. He is survived by his eight children as follows: Mrs. W.H. Greenwell, Kenton; Mrs. William Taylor, Dover; Mrs. Harry W. Jones, Clayton; Mrs. W. P Fleming, Hillsboro, Md.; Miss Susie Rees, Smyrna; Thomas A. Rees, New Castle; David R. Rees, Middletown, and Charles Rees, Clayton. Funeral services were held at his late residence on west Commerce Street at noon yesterday and interment was made in the family lot at Brynzion Baptist Cemetery near Kenton."
