[9002] he spent his youth on his father's farm near Littlestown, attended the regular schools, and then went to the Littlestown Academy. At the age of 16 he learned the plasterer's trade and worked at it for eight years. Then for 8 years he worked at the butcher business.In 1841 he married Cordelia McIlvain. Her father was of Scotch descent and her mother of German descent. In 1856 they went to Knoxville, Illinois where he worked as a plasterer until 1861 when he took a partnership in a grocery business for 18 years. After leaving the grocery business he took a partnership in a drup store and later took over the business. He belonged to the German Reforned Ch. and in politics he was a Democrat. Around Sept of 1887 he his wife, daughter and granddaughter came from Knoxville to Littlestown to attend a family reunion held at the place of George and Lucinda Stonesifer.
