[9085] His first wife was from Gettysburg, and she was the daughter of a former Sheriff of Adams Co; his second wife was the daughter of a minister (Brethren) of Orrstown, Adams Co PA. Amos was a currier and tanner by trade, working first in Littlestown, then after his second marriage he moved his business to Orrtanna (near Fairfield) in 1875 it being the home area of his wife. About 1891 he became a merchant in produce, flour , feed, and lumber with this business being located in Orrtanna also. In a Gettysburg city directory for 1903 he was listed as living there at 427 Baltimore St and operated grocery store next door at 429 Baltimore St. He had served as a private in the Civil War in Co E 165th PA inf.
