was married, may have had several children and as his descendants are the only ones that are presently known coming down from Johannes Eberhardt.
His wifes name is unkown. He was born in the area of Uniontown in Frederick Co MD., he was the older of two sons of Johannes Eberhardt Stonesifer who came to America from Germany on the Ship Patience on Sept 19 1749. When the family moved to the vicinity of Hagerstown, MD about 1770-71 he went along and settled there also. Indications are that about 1773 he married, but the name of his wife is not known. The 1790 Census records him as a resident of Washinton Co Md with a wife, a son just 16, and a daughter whose age is not known. In 1793 he purchased a lot in Boonsboro near Hagerstown, and from that time on his name is associated with quite a number of land transactions. Possibly he speculated in land as part of his income as did his cousin, John Martin Stonesifer of Westminster MD- John Martin being the oldest son of John Daniel Stonesfier of Silver Run and for whom John Daniel of Boonsboro was named. Boonsboro was laid out as a town in 1788 with the land said to have originally been owned by Geroge and Williaim Boone- two of the sons of the famous American pioneer, Daniel Boone, who lived there for a time before going on to settle in Kentucky.
John Daniel Stonesifer of Boonsboro had a son John born about 1774 and a daughter whose name is not known and likely born after her brother, The Census of 1810 and 1820 give indications that ther may have been two other younger sons and a daughter, but as names are not given these indications may reflect the children of a couple living with John Daniel and his wife (or perhaps may be children of the daughter whose name is not known.) The Census of 1810 also tells us that he possessed and adult slave, but whether male or female is not known.
If he followed the tradtion of his family, he would have been a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Boonsboro- a church dating back to the 1750's.
John Daniel's son John died in 1813 leaving two young children John and Marie. By 1820 it appears that this young John was living with his grandgather. As this grandson later plied the trade of gunsmith, it would seem probable that this was also John Daniel's trade and that he passed it on to his grandson.
John Daniel's wife apparently died in the 1820's. On June 2, 1832 he made his will and it was probated on Sept 6 1834. Found in Book D page 112 in the Office of the Register of Wills in Hagerstown, it informs us that John Daniel was no longer able to write but made his mark, and that he left all estate assets to Catharine, the Widow of Henry Stonsifer (his brother). Letters of administration were eventually granted to George Itorgie on Jan 28 1840. The accounting of the estate is supposed to be in Book 12 page 86 now located in the Hall of Records in Annapolis MD. The connection of the administrator to John Daniel is not presently known. John Daniel died a short time prior to Seot 6 1834 at the age of 81 and is presumed to be buried in the Cemetery in Boonsboro, MD
