Joh is the only child whose name is presently known out of poddibly five children in the family of his father John Daniel Stonesifer the olfer of two sons of Johannes Eberhardt Stonesifer, the immigrant.
He was born near Hagerstown, and probably in the place called Elisabeth Town, where his father and grandfather had settled about 1771. Around 1799 or a few years previously he had settled in Cumberland MD where three sisters of his father were living. Cumberland was the county seat of Allegany County - established out of Washington Co on Dec 25 1789, and where the Census on 1800 lists him as a single resident. There he married a local girl had two dhildren and died at the early age of 39 from unknown causes. His trade is not known nor his burial place but which is likely in the area of either Cumberland or Frostburg the two main places of settlement of that day.
As he had no will, the estate was entered for intestate probate on June 9 1813 by a John Tomlinson, SR presumably his wife's father. The brief account can be found in Book A page 146 in which he left 66 pounds, 3 shilling, and 7 1/2 pence. Of the two children nothing is known further presently of Maria, her brother John apparently wernt to live with his grandfather in Boonsboro.
