Look up the Kent Mutual Insurance record on Stephen Minner Dover 1461 18640101 y n St Jones Neck at the Dover State Archives. This record has been miss labeled at the Archives in Dover.
Historical Marker at Bryn Zion site states that the Old School Baptist Church was established in 1733, Build the church in 1771, rebuilt in 1871 and destroyed by storm in 1942.
Starves page 1125-"The oldest church in the hundred is the Old Duck Creek of Bryn Zion Church, about three-quarters of a mile northeast of the town of Kenton. About 1733 eight or nine families (chiefly members of Welsh Track Church) made a settlement at Duck Creek, in Kent County, from whence the same religion spread south ward to Cowmarsh and Mispillion, westward to Georgetown in Maryland and eastward to Fast Landing. Services were held by these settlers, and occasionally a minister from the Welsh Tract would preach to them." [Look into the Welsh Track information]
1900 September 29 Smyrna Times: "Death of Stephen Minner:--A well known resident of the vicinity, Stephen Minner, died on his farm near Blackiston Cross Road on Thursday last after a weeks illness, in the 73rd year of his age. He had been a sufferer for some time with chronic diarrhea but the sudden carrying off was from an attack of paralysis. Mr. Minner was held in high esteem in his neighborhood, was a good and successful farmer and would the popular wish have been regarded, it would have been for him to round up his four score of years before taking his departure. The remains were interred Sunday morning in the family burying lot at Bryn Zion Church, Rev G R Ellis officiating. He leaves besides his widow, six children-Miss Josephine, Mrs. B F Middleton, W H., Edwin, Eugene, and Arthur Minner. Eugene remains home with his mother and will most likely succeed his father on the farm."
The best information I have found is the first MINNER immigrant is Samuel MINOR. He came to Maryland from England in 1661. Thomas Taylor was awarded 700 acres Patent L8F507 along Nanticoke River and Taylor's Creek in Dorchester County. 300 of those acres were for transporting John Taylor, his son, Francis Taylor, Samuel Minor, Margaret Vanmerssa, Arthur Nuthall and Mary (another servant). Descendents have spelled the surname with many variations (Minner, Minners, Miner, Miners, Minor, Minors, Minish, and Minich). I have linked my family back to Peter MINNERS, who is mentioned as living adjacent to Peter Taylor, Thomas Taylor, and John Taylor in land records 1707-1710. The close connection of Peter Minners and his sons to the Taylors strengthens the probability that Samuel MINOR is either Peter Minners' father or grandfather. In 1725, an indenture was signed by John MINNERS to Peter Taylor for land along the Great Choptank River. This John is very likely the son of Peter MINNERS. I have only sketchy data on MINNER descendents mostly from land and indenture records. None of them seemed to have had enough earthly belongings to bother with a WILL and I have not even found a probate record until 1767.So the MINNER family came from very humble beginnings and stayed in the Eastern Shore Maryland and Delaware 200 years before migrating west. In fact, the surname MINNER, though rare, is still more common in Delaware than in any other state in the US.
