He was a sales rep for Endicott-Johnson Shoe Co. and lived in the Newark and East Orange, NJ area.
Dee Fisher writes:When I first saw your mention of William Leslie MINNER, I
was confused since I had always known him as "Uncle Lester",
but I saw the note came from Leslie Walls and there also is
a note from Vincent, William's son on that page... so I
thought perhaps I remembered wrong? I was trying to think
back of what my father had said when he mentioned him... I
thought maybe he said "Uncle Les" and I "assumed" he meant
Lester and not Leslie... but no, I'm sure he said "Uncle
Lester". My middle name is Leslie and I'm sure I would have
been told if I had a relative with the same name. (I was
told Leslie in my name came from a Bette Davis movie.)
While talking to my brother, he said that he had noticed
Leslie instead of Lester too in the listing and is positive
it's Lester. I have absolutely nothing written with his name
on it at all, (my brother is going to dig through the old
pictures my father's second wife sent him after my father
died, when he gets back from vacation in three weeks) but I
was flipping through the notebook I keep of notes I jot down
while talking to people on the phone. Some relatives are
sure they have nothing helpful, so I just let those people
talk on and reminisce without interrupting while I scribble
furiously. I had talked to my Uncle Ray (Samuel Raymond
MINNER) several times in the couple of years before he died,
and on one of the pages of notes I'd scribbled, he mentioned
"Uncle Lester". This is not to say, of course, that
William's legal name wasn't Leslie and they called him
Lester. :-) Or that some people called him Uncle Lester and
others called him Uncle Leslie. :-)
