Tillman Steinseiffer is said to be recorded as having left his home in Freudenberg, Germany to go with a group bound for America in March of 1738. The place from which he emigrated was located in Nassau-Siegen and about 20 miles northwest of Eiserfeld. He sailed from "South Hampton", England on May 8 1738, and arrived at Savannah, Georgia about Oct 1 1738 at the age of 17. As did most Germans who came here, he likely first boarded ship in Rotterdam and then, as almost all ships did, put in at an English port to pick up other passengers and additional supplies before beginning the long crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.
After landing he went almost immediately to Culpepper Co, VA, but he stayed there only briefly. Sometime about 1739-40 he worked his way north and came to what is now Montgomery Co PA where he bought a 230-acre tract of land. In his day this county was still a part of Philadelphia County, and only became an entity in its own right when it was created on Sept 10, 1784. The county of Montgomery is a very large one, and it is located directly northwest of the city of Philadelphia. Here the name of Steinseiffer was anglicized to theof Stonicher, Stonecher, Stoneaker, and Stonacher. Some of his descendants stayed there, but many others moved to the South, and are found in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama,, and Mississippi. His descendants without exception are said to have fought in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. The writer (Doyle F Wildasin) understand that they have made their own family history write-up.
