Hi Ruth,
I must stress that this is not my HUNN research that I'm giving you. It was done by Denise TYLER a couple of years ago. I have not checked herresearch. I merely gave her what I had on my own HUNN family (which
started in the late 1700's ) and she incorporated into her data. Denise worked on this for 20 plus years and I assume her conclusions are valid.
She feels that Nathaniel, who m Priscilla KITCHIN was the s of one of the unnamed sons mentioned in the will of George HUNNE (dated March 25 1640).The only s named is Nathanell (his spelling). Nathanell had a s named
Nathaniel who m Rebecca HALE and this is my line. Nathaniel Jr was b abt 1650 and bp Feb 4 1665/6 in Boston (the same date all his brothers and sisters were bp). The Nathaniel b abt 1650 is not the man who m Priscilla
KITCHIN. Denise has concuded that there are two different Nathaniel's and the one b abt 1647 is s of one of the sons whose names are not in George's will. It is possible that George only mentioned his youngest s (my
theory) if his older ones had already got a trade.or married and he no longer felt responsible for them. George instructs that Nathanell be given to James Johnson as a servant for five years which might lead me to think he was b later than the 1627 Denise feels was his dob.
I have the Bay Colony Records at my library and George HUN/HUNN/HUNNE is mentioned in them. I have not looked at them since I got this data from Denise so I think I'll look them over. I certainly remember George's name, but I don't remember if Nathaniel or anyother HUNN is mentioned.
The data from Denise gives the three known children of Nat'l and Priscilla as Priscilla HUNN b Jan 21 1672 Salem, m Thomas Walton Jan 3 1690 Abington, Sarah HUNN b Oct 6 1674 Salem, m Hugh Luff Aug 25 1688 at Salem,
d 1741 and Nathaniel HUNN b abt 1676 at Kent DE, m Mary Walker, Eleanor --(don't know about this last one - does this seem to be correct?) Salem Vital Records are very good. I can check HUNN in Salem for what there is. I think there was a group of Quakers who were violent in their non-conformist beliefs. I seem to remember a Mary DYER who was banished to an island in Boston Harbor for her proseltyzing. The Puritans (as opposed
to the Pilgrims) from the Bay Colony were a lot less forgiving of people like the Baptists (Roger Williams) and Quakers than those in the Plimouth Colony. This is not my area of expertise but I know there have been lots
of publications addressing how the Puritans dealt with dissent - and the Quakers were certainly dissenters. Would they have called Capt John KITCHEN a "violent Quaker non-conformist". If he was urging people not to be
Congregationalists (Puritan) then I'm sure they called him that and worse.
I haven't followed the PECK line back beyond the parents of the firstwife of one of my direct ancestors - and they were in RI. However it's no great distance from CT to RI and I know some of the HEATH family moved into
CT from RI - why wouldn't the opposite be true? CT to RI. Let me know if I can help with any of this. I have MA records to look at, but CT is difficult, at best and I don't know RI at all.
I find it interesting that the line goes to NJ. A direct ancestor on my mother's side goes from MA to NJ (Woodbridge)in the late 1600's and establishes a well-known LEWIS line there. I've done a great deal of research in Morris Co and will be doing more in Somerset Co. That's where the LEWISes ended up before they went west. I'm researching an ALLEN line in NJ that may be ALLIN or ALLING, from CT originally. There is a lot on the ALLIN/ALLING family in CT but no connection yet.
I won't be able to go to the library until Tuesday, but I'll look over those Bay Colony Records and let you know what find. I'll look for CaptJohn KITCHIN too.
Betsey
